27 Nov Sydney Opera House Renewal ‘Function Centre Project’ Diffusion Test
Smartair Diffusion has built a heated façade and perimeter air diffusion mock-up of the Sydney Opera House Function Centre that is currently under construction, so as to optimise cooling comfort and effective heating without detracting aesthetically from the heritage architecture of this iconic building.
A traditional design of washing conditioned air across the glazing could not be accommodated due to architectural constraints. Instead, air diffusion will be via bespoke high induction SMARTEMP Linear Multistream Diffusers that are curved to match the beam, and that are off-set upwards to fully expose the beauty of the concrete.
Discharge patterns are tailored to create broadly spread, gentle airflow that prevents draughts and yet achieves heating penetration to the occupants. The mock-up tests, conducted at the Smartair Diffusion R&D laboratory in Sydney, have been witnessed by representatives of AECOM, Engie and Idealair Group, all of whom were delighted by the premium performance levels that will be achieved for this truly wonderful space.
